Hi, I live in New York and my landlord is trying to charge me a late fee of $100 even though I see in NY you can’t be charged more than $50 or 5% of your monthly rent, whichever is less. How can I handle this situation with my landlord?
Hi John, you are correct that you can’t be charged more than $50 or 5% of your monthly rent. I had a similar issue a few months ago and I called my landlord and explained this to him. That worked but you could also send a letter to your landlord via certified mail so you have it documented. Hope that helps!
